Hi folks;

There's a 3 page article in the May 8 edition of PC Magazine rating 10 headphones from the senn pmx-100 to the grado gs-1000. Their 1 liner about the gs-1000..."Very likely the best-sounding headphones ever made-and they're priced accordingly." I wish the magazine would cover pc hardware more and audio and/or video hardware less.

Reading through it, I like the ratings.

The Bose ones were rated low.
Ety, UE, Grado rated high.

Is this reviewer a head-fi'er?

"Cons: Large Size and outward sound projection are a drag for travelers" - Re: the GS1000.

Who in the name of god would travel with GS1000s!?? you'd need an amp and a good source to get the most out of them, so I dont see these as iBud replacements for trips on the plane....

I wonder what sources these reviews were conducted on....

Not a bad article. Quite a diverse group of head and earphones he covered. I think it is a pretty good job coming from a non-audio specific source. He offers good insight to an audience that - en masse - probably doesn't think much of headphones which can only help our hobby.

You'd be surprised. Look at some of the previous threads in head-fi. I remember one guy saying taking the K701's out (which are not exactly discrete either).

I find it suspect that there was no mention of source or sample. It sounds like he was driving all of these from his iPod, which is fine for low impedance phones but is there really an audible difference when you're so source limited?
