I told someone I know not to get a gaming branded headset and instead buy from a company that specializes in high-fidelity headphones, but at only £100 ($110), I'm starting to think that an all-in-one deal might be better by going with HyperX Cloud II, which is from what I've gathered, one of those few gaming headsets that actually are good. This is for PS4, so that limits the options quite a bit.
The only decent attachable mics on the market are ModMic 4.0 ($55) and 5.0 and V-Moda Boom Mic Pro ($30). The headphones would have to have a detachable cable and a 3.5mm jack for the V-Moda mic.
The cheapest decent or good DAC or amp I could find is Schiit Fulla ($59).
If I asked him to stretch his budget, do you have any recommendations for headphones or cheaper DAC or amp? Soundstage, imaging and detailing are priorities. He doesn't have a preference when it comes to closed- or open-back design.
