Hey all,
I'm looking to get get some top earphones for use with my Siemens SL45i Phone/MP3 Player. I want them to be in-ear, so I can't really be doing with the Koss Porta Pro etc.

I know that the best solution is to get some Shures or The Plug. I would buy these if it wasnt for the fact that I would be wearing them whilst walking around on the street. Im worried that using these earphones will totally reduce my perception of the things around me and thus make me walk into the path of a bus

.

So, what am I to buy? Will 'The Plug' really stop me from hearing whats going on around me?
Please get back to me, hopefully you guys will know of some cans that will work for me, or maybe i'm wrong and the ear canal style headphones wont kill me

Thanks

don't ever wear in ear canal and walk in the street.. please
it's very very dangerous.. with the ety er-4p.. I was literally disconnected from the rest of the world !! scary.. but great when you just want to hear the music.

As such, I would recommend senn mx500. Great earphone. Better than the stock phone that comes with the sl45. I don't know how great is the siemens sl45's mp3 player.. but I had used the phone before. It's quite bassy... but is quite ok sounding. I don't know.. since I've sold off the phone.
Oh and one more thing, did you use the diy-extension in order to be able to plug your earphone? as far as I'm concerned the sl45's earphone is soldered with that stupid squarish thingy...
I saw the mod quite some time ago and was interested at that time .. but couldn't find that extension :p
mx500.. mx500.. repeat after me :p

lol, thanks for the reply. Yeh the SL45 only has a squarish connector for Siemens headphones, but you can buy an adaptor which allows you to connect any headphones in

. Its not the same as the DIY one that you mean, because this adaptor has a button on it for voice dialling and a mic aswell. I bought it from here

So you reckon that I should get Senn MX500, what about koss ksc-22? Or is there no comparison? Any more advice would be greatly appreciated, at least I know now that in-canal phones are a no no.

Cheers

A couple of quick questions d00d:
a) What is the general view on the Sony MDR-E888LP, are they just Sony hype, or are they a contender to the Senn mx500s?

b) The Senn mx500 comes with a case, is it detachable or must it always be with the phones?

Cheers, the basis of the response to this post will help me decide whether or not to go for the Senn mx500s.
If the case is detachable I probably will

i think the e888 is better than the mx500 since its 304 times more expensive. people also prefer this over the ex71.
i thinkt it is possible to take out the mx500. the only different betweent he mx500 and mx400 is that the 500 has volume control.

I used to walk around in earplugs all the time so walking around with er-6s wasn't really too much of a change for me. i actually feel like i'm more aware of things when i'm wearing etys. i mean deaf people walk around just fine don't they?

Hi, thx for the advice and greeting, but im still rather worried about blocking my ear canal whilst trying to get through traffic. The question is which are better Senn mx500s or Sony E888? I know that its a very subjective process, but I really can't see anyway that I can go and try them out

You're not gonna get a satisfactory answer on the E888s and MX500 comparison.
Half of the people here like the MX500 better and the other half the E888s.

I never heard the 888s so I don't know.
What I do know is that the mx500s are exactly what you're looking for.
And if you don't care for the volume control you can save yourself a couple of $$ and get the mx400s. I've been told they sound the same.

And of course the case isn't attached to them

It's just a nice case to put them in when you don't use them.
Oh, and use the foamies or better buy some radioshack foamies, fits better in your ears and sounds better.

Good point. Walking through the streets of New York without hearing anyone if it can be an interesting and worthwhile experience. The same can be said for LA, I take it.

Thanks for all your help folks. I think that the mx500's are the ones for me. I personally don't like the Sony ethos when it comes to selling headphones, all this sony street style buisness sounds a bit daft to me

. Now the question is, where in the UK can I order them from?
