I am looking for headphones for my Ipod. I am not going to use amp so Ipod must be able do drive them and don't want IEM or buds. I listen to rock and hip hop and enjoy good bass but need headphone that would ge me the best of both worlds. My budget $100. I l was thinking about Senn 485 (they seem to be perfect size that I am looking for) or 555 but I am afraid that Ipod would be to weak to drive 555 plus those are out my price range. For portable use I already have KSC 75 and EP 630. I am not a big fan of PX100 and and need something bigger then that. Any suggestions

From what I've read here an ipod is capable of driving the HD555 and you can get them here on the FS forum for less than $100, although HD485 does sound good for you.

From what I've read, this sounds like a sensible choice. If I wasn't already enamored of the HD 25-1 I'd sertainly pick up a pair.

The Beyerdynamic DT 231 seems very nice for iPod. I think I will invest in a pair of those for my iPod

Going from the phones I own, I would have to recommend the AKG K81DJs. I have both the HD25s and AKG K81Djs. However, I have to say that when I did an A-B comparison I find the K81DJs more 'fun' straight from the iPod. At their lower price, they are really hard to beat. I love my HD25s too...they are really nice closed portables...it's just a pitty they are priced so high for what they are.

BTW, you will get some big bass from the K81DJs, so you should enjoy them (going by your musical tastes). They are really easy to drive too.

I've had the HD485s for about a week now, and highly recommend them. They're very large, but also very light weight and comfortable. Not something I would walk around outside with, but perfect for the office and at home. The bass is incredible, and the highs and mids are very good. I expect the already very good sound to improve with some burn-in. I run them unamped out of an Ipod with no problems.

For the $100 price point, the 555's are a very good all around solution, they can drive a shuffle, nano, or 5G with no problem. And yes there are other solutions and other personal opinions.

It seems like those need an amp though
