My dad is hard of hearing and likes to watch TV with headphones. He has used RF headphones for a while, but recently switched to a wired connection with a Sony MDR-V6 that he likes better, but they still don't block out much sound. Is it better to go noise-canceling or should he try another pair of wired headphones that are unusually good at blocking out sound? Perhaps IEMs? One of the problems is the echoing effect of having both the TV on and his headphones, but his wife and others in the room need the TV sound on.

With isolation taking priority, take a look at the Rock-It Sounds R-Shield:

For |joker| on this site, the MDR-V6 has better sound quality, but the R-Shield demolishes the V6 in isolation.

BTW, the number rating comparison chart is here:

And here is the R-Shield product purchase page:

These DT 1350s I got also get a "10" on the isolation factor from ljokerl. He can try them first. They have better sound than V6 and  Adorama has a sale going on...

The DT1350 is on-ear and the R-Shield is over-ear, which can mean a listen time comparison of 2 hours or 6 hours, so just remember that.
