I recently got a Denon DA-300USB for my computer and I'm now looking for suitable headphones to go with it. The headphone amp on the Denon is quite low-powered (50mW/32Ohm) so the headphones need to be efficient. I'm currently testing Denon's own AH-D7200 with them and although I really like the sound quality, the comfort is not good enough and I can't wear them for long before the headband starts uncomfortably pressing the top of my head.

So any recommendations for headphones that would be easy for a low-powered amp to drive?

The HE400S looks interesting. I was considering the HE400i but the S would probably be a better choice.

They are quite similar. The 400i is flat from about 100 hz down to 10 hz on some frequency response plots and on others, it is more like the 400S. The 400S has about a 15 db drop over those frequencies.. That's the primary difference. So, bass is lighter. That can be somewhat ameliorated by using Focus A pads in place of the stock pads.

It is your decision no one can tell how they sound to you. If you can't listen to them yourself then it will be a shot in the dark. Most here give there honest opinions of what they hear for them as I do but it is hard to tell what you hear. Graphs are fine they can get you in the ballpark but they can not tell you how a headphone will sound to you.

Yeah, that's a problem as I really don't have any opportunity to try them out before buying. Though HE400S isn't that expensive so it's not that great of a risk to buy it blind and I'd probably be easily able to sell it if it turns out I don't like it.

I might have to completely change my plans though, as I've noticed the Denon DAC I've got has an irritating popping sound whenever the sound signal from the computer starts or stops for example whenever I start or stop/pause a YouTube video. If that's something that cannot be fixed then I'll probably have to either return the DAC or if that's not possible try to sell it as that popping sound really annoys me. The unit I have has been modified by the importer to have variable line-out instead of fixed so it can function as a pre-amp for active speakers and I've wondered if the mod is what's causing the popping as none of the reviews I read about it mentioned anything like that but those were all of the unmodded version with fixed line-out.

If it turns out I have to get rid of it then I've been considering getting either an Audeze Deckard or Marantz HD-DAC1 to replace it. Those are much more expensive than what I'd been planning on paying, but atleast they should last me a long before I'd get any urge to upgrade :)
