I have a friend wanting to spent some 100-150$ (max 200) on a headphone (yay!).

They'll only be used in his home, unamped. I have a feeling he would want a somewhat neutral, leaning towards warm, headphone.

I have suggested him the CAL!'s because he can get them for only 55$, which is a very good price in my country.

I have also suggested him the dt-770, which he seem to like based on what I have told him. I am worried if he is gonna run 'em unamped, though.

I did also suggest the k701's as a possibility.

Anything I missed?

Also, would it be acceptable to run the dt770 unamped?

They sound fairly good unamped. The reason why people say that you need an amp for them isn't that they sound terrible without an amp; it's just that they sound much better with an amp and it's a shame to waste that potential. He could get them without the amp for now, and get an amp when he wants an upgrade.

Sure I'll get him lulled into head-fi by letting him try my amps :D

It (HFI-2400) might be a bit expensive, but good suggestion. I have a feeling he is set on the dt-770.
He has heard my HE-500, which he really liked, and I have a feeling he's seeking something similar.

Will the 32 ohm LE version work out better unamped?

As of now, he has placed an order for the dt-770 Limited Edition.

Cool.
I will wait for comments about it once they arrive. Your friend will not be disappointed.
