I had a pair of Panasonic rp-ht355s for the last 3 or so years which I liked a lot but the volume thing was starting to give out on me. Then my friend stepped on them. Now I'm looking for a new pair of phones, I prefer around the ear ones, at around 50 bucks. If I can get off less I'd be happy. I'd like another pair of my old ones, but they seem to be pretty hard to find. I like a nice punchy, balanced (with maybe a bit of a scoop or bass boost), full sound and listen to a lot of different styles.

Thanks for any suggestions

The Sennheiser PX100's are a favorite in that price range. I have owned a pair for a while just to keep in my backpack in case I don't feel like lugging around my A900s. I would say they would meet your requirements fairly well as they are a bit bass heavy and are quite punchy. For my tastes, they are too much so but I like a brighter headphone but for the price and the portability (they fold up and fit into a plastic case) they are great. I believe some other popular phones in the price range are from Koss but I don't have any experience with them.

I had that same panasonic model for several years before coming to head-fi, but sold them shortly after I bought the Koss KSC75. They really aren't that good compared to other phones in the price range. The KSC75 and PX100 are great recommendations, but aren't around the ear type designs. I'd check out the Koss UR40, which apparently sounds similar to the KSC75.

Sorry, missed that part with my suggestion. I do pose the question of why you would like that style, are you looking for isolation or just believe you will find a better can in that style?

I can not recommend the Sennheiser PX100 enough for the price of 38$us. Even though they are not around the ear headphones, they are very comfy.

That's what I would recommend.

I was able to pick my Grado SR-60's up for only $60 from J&R with free shipping and $10 off from google checkout. I love them, don't think you can go wrong with them in the price range.

For a pair of around-the-ear headphones that your friend could probably step on and maybe kick around the room a couple of times without much damage, and which could perhaps last even longer than your Pannys did, but which cost a few bucks more than your limit, you may want to look at the Sony MDR-V6.

Comfort basically. I've never really tried a pair of on the ears that felt right whereas most over felt good. I like the feeling of having cocoons of sound and padding surrounding my ears.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll be lookin into them in a little bit.

If you increase the budget by about $10, you can get the Equation Audio RP-15, which has gotten glowing reviews and apparently sounds almost as good as it's big brother the RP-21 at a little over half the price. If I was going to get a closed, circumaural phone in this price range, it would almost certainly be this one.

Edit: If you decide you can deal with earpads, you really can't go wrong with the PX-100. Nice & punchy with a little bit of bass emphasis and decent clarity - I think you'd like the sound quite a bit.

Hmmm, I don't think they would really be drastically different then any on ear phones but I do feel they sit lightly on your ears and really don't get hot or anything. Don't have any experience with any of the others mentioned though.

So I'm basically between the Koss UR40 and the Sennheiser eH350. I'm leaning towards the Koss mostly because of the price. I wasn't scheduled to work this week and the 50 bucks was pretty much the tops as it was. If the eh350s are really worth it I might be more inclined towards them, but as it is they're almost twice as much. I couldn't find any reviews when searching the review forum. I read a couple offa google, but anyone wanna gimme a quickie review or talk me into/out of one of them?
Thanks

I'm not sure if you've bought them yet but I'll tell you this. The midrange is sublime. Acoustic guitars are just so amazingly textured, vocals are distinct and is not superceded by instruments. I only have few classical songs in my collection but I'll tell you this. This puppy excels in that category due to its beautiful midrange. Violins never sounded oh so very beautiful.

Good separation (more evident than Etymotic ER6s). Clarity is very good. Only fault I can find with them is that they're a bit grainy sounding at times. Bass was faulted at times, but it's liveable. (Subjective.)

Overall quite impressive since it's being driven straight of a DAP. In fact, I only hope that my future phones have a midrange that's as comparable.

Here's a good comparison (vs HD205) here.
