Well guys,
after the first and failure thread when I first joined because of my attitude and a lot of questions, after reading a lot around here I want you help a second time. After thinking and actually observing what I was actually doing it the pc I found out that I:

Listen to music (specifically classic/psychedelic rock) 70%,20% watching videos, movies and stuff, 10% experiment with other musical styles (greek rap/low bap)! So I've come up to a conclusion that AD-700 or DT-770 80ohm (no money for 250ohm or 600ohm), what I am seeking is comfort for long hour sessions and an overal nice sound, also from the tests I took I probably have not exercised my ear enough to justify more money spent or (HF-2 for example).
That said I want to ask if its possible to give the AD-700 a paintjob and I want to tell me if this headphones will shine with an amp and which one for >100. The headphones will be ran through a mac mini most probably... I also dont care about sound liking out because I am probably in the computer alone most of the time when I listen to music, no intention of using them portably as my iBuds are more than enough for my portable needs. Ending, I want a headphone set which will lead to an audiophile future for me!

Thanks for your time,
-George

Hi George, I can't decide if you want an all rounder, or an audiophile headphone?

Audiophile headphones are never all rounders, and all rounders are never audiophile headphones. High end phones are always good for one music and bad for another.

I think the $150is AKG (K240, K271) are good all-rounder while offering audiophile qualities. The newer version (MK2) are fairy easy to drive, being 55 ohms.

The AD700s are very comfortable, and imo they do pretty good on all genres (except hardcore/very heavy bass music)I also watch movies too with these things, does the job pretty well.
I dont know about the paint, imo they look very good, but I dont see it anyways when it's on my head.
I dont know much about amps, but i bought AD700s because they didnt really need an amp to shine. (at least thats what people on this forum told me

)

Only concern is their bass, its a bit light (i like it that way, others doesnt)

I don't agree with this... I dont believe a headphone should be audiophile approved if they cant play all types of music equally well.

I think that even the audiophile grade cans that can performe well on all genres of music will still be excelent in one or two genre maximum.
because every can has a certain colour to it that goes right with a certain kind of music.

i dont know... all my headphones are very much coloured, but will a non coloured headphone(if there is such a thing)
will be more suitable for this purpose?

The most flat headphone i heard of is the dt880 and from what i heard, they also have their weeknesses.

I don't agree with audiophile headphone in the first place. What is an audiophile headphone?

even after all the comments saying audio technicas are colored for example... The ad900s are the least colored cans ive owned to date(see my profile) and they are great with all music genres... It just goes to say that peoples opinions differ greatly when it comes to sound

audiophile headphones should be totally neutral. Its basically what all reference models strive for but always fail at

But then again (not to get in a totally audio technical discussion), music is never recorded to be played on total neutral headphones, so the result would still be quite dissapointing. Also audiophile means loving audio, I am more into music myself, and choose my headphones accordingly

Well I dont wont to look like I know anything about akg I am just asking but isnt akg a bit more neutral or that applies only to 701? Also when I say all-arounder I mean for rock, a bit greek rap, movies and everything I do on the computer, I dont mean neutral! And what about amps? It will be run through mac mini with flac and apple lossless as the basic format.

Thanks again for your fast response guys!

-I am leaning towards ATH-AD700, thinking of buying them of amazon (any problems with that?) but I have a question how do they do in rock and movies also the bass is enough for rap?

I had closed cans and they are clampy (at least the Ultrasones are) and sweaty (more sweaty than open circumaural and supraaural). IMO, and I wear glasses, the MS1 are indeed comfortable. I tried the Grado SR-80 and I couldn't stand the bowls (or whatever the pads are called); the MS1 is nice, however. No sweating and no fatigue, aural or physical.

is that means that audiophile should be someone that is not looking into coloured sound?
In the thread "fidelity or neutral"...or something like that, i said that i prefer
coloured sound rather than neutral(not that i have problem with that...it's also good). all my cans are pretty much coloured.
I don't use eq or something...only let my headpnones to shape the sound in the "natural" way. the question is: can i be called an "audiophile"?
someone answered me with "yes". because an audiophile is the lover of sound.
do you agree with that? i am just interested...
I know that the main purpose is to reach the closest to neutral there is...but the question is what is an audiophile.
