The headphone jack on my MP3 player (Nomad Jukebox 3) broke and will be prohibitively expensive to fix. It has 2, unamped line-out jacks. When I plugged my headphones into the line out jack, I could hear sound at a medium-low volume. I basically use my MP3 player at the gym. Buying some kind of amp seemed a little excessive for something that's supposed to be portable.

My question: Are there any heaphones (preferably behind-the-ear) with a volume control that could amplify the line-out signal?

Thanks in advance.

Get a Xin Supermini amp which will surely amplify the sound to your liking. It's smaller than the credit card. I think someone is currently selling the older V4 at lower price.

If sound quality isn't a concern, you can get a Boostaroo or whatever they're calling it now at Radioshack. Those things run $15-20. It doesn't have a volume control so you'd need an in-line volume control as well, $7. (Or just get the Sennheiser MX500 earbuds - great sound and a volume control.)

If you want small size and sound quality, go for the Supermini. www.fixup.net

If you want sound quality and a relatively low price, cruise the for-sale forums here and at Headwize for a used cmoy amp. They usually run $50-70 and are, at the smallest, in an Altoids tin. So it wouldn't add that much bulk to your Nomad.
