Headphone Tube Amps - The hunt for all 300B TUBE AMPS

Anyone like WE300B than the Elrogs? I just like the Elrogs too much. WE300B not as extended in the low end. Has a bit mid bass hump. It's still good but Elrogs are my fav so far. MOs :) ...

Any great combo folks have found with the WE300B for driver tubes? Any 6SN7, 6J5, 6F8G, 12UA7 variants are all welcome ...

I have C3g driving the 300B in one of my amps. But haven’t tried the WE300B yet. I have a feeling they would go very well together.

I have 4, C3G and need a second adapter to try them in the Envy……

Gotta get through quite a few 12A** options first.

I found that I was getting distortion on high setting from the Envy with Sus and some known good 12AU7. I figure with 12AT7 and an amplification factor of 60 this would be the case but the 12AU7 and 6SN7 are both 20.

I have WE and both Elrogs, and much prefer the Elrogs. I have the Elrogs for sound. I have WE for blue glow. AN4300E is like a WE with better detail, bass and treble extension, and more upper midrange sparkle. I like it somewhat better than WE as well.

Is the Envy designed for 6SN7? I find that all the 12AU7, 12AT7 and 12AX7 don't sound so good in circuits designed for the 6SN7.

12au7 will sound good in Envy. The others have higher gain, and may not. 12au7 is basically the 9 pin version of the 6SN7. It can run at either 6.3v or 12,6V, depending on how the amp is wired to use the dual triodes. Envy likes 6.3V for them. If you have external power, you can overvt them, but 12.6V is too much, and they become noisy.

I think there are a few differences when it comes to the 12AU7 and the 6SN7:
"The 12AU7 is a slightly different animal... different capacitance, different gain, different transconductance. It can usually be made to work in place of a 6SN7, but it's probably not a drop-in replacement without tweaking other circuit components..."

I guess it would depend upon the circuit design. Sounds like the Envy doesn't mind the differences between the 12AU7 and the 6SN7 though.

I've tried 6-7 different 12au7s, and they all work fine, and sound better than current production 6sn7 as well, on Envy. This will not be the case for the other 12a*7 tubes, which are all out of 6sn7 spec. Most references I've seen consider 12au7 and 6sn7 to be equivalent and compatible. I agree that the truth may be more subtle than that, but so far, all work perfectly on Envy for me.
