wanted something to offer a different flavour to my dt 1990.
perhaps a deeper bass but not slamming, richer vocals, not as aggressive.

The obvious question- why not DT1770?

My DT1770s are "in the mail" so I don't know. But I think it's going to be very difficult to find something acceptable in the price range that will live up to the detail of the DT1990s.

I have the Fostex TR-X00 in Mahogany. For jazz, blues, or country you will need some EQ. They are quite an interesting pair of headphones but have recessed mids and are distinctly V-shaped. Vocals are pushed down unacceptably. I think the ebonies may well be too much of a good thing for your genres of choice. You can probably EQ either pair but I find the Fostex not the best choice for all around listening and they also do leak quite a bit even though they're a closed design.

I haven't heard them but I understand the Meze is very V shaped. Since @slowth has richer vocals on his list I don't think he will like them.

emu team/fostex etc or LCD-2C better complements 1990?

LCD-2C is a great all around headphone. No glaring weaknesses and a lot of positives. The Fostex clan deliver unreal quality of bass but the midrange is too deemphasized for a lot of people. With EQ they're superb though.
