Hey fam, new member here. Money is finally coming in steadily for me and I'm looking at getting into the audiophile community as a place to just dump buckets of money. At the moment I'm looking to get a new pair of headphones. They will mostly be for commuting or when I'm out and about so closed back and an ergonomic design would be preferred. I'm looking in the 150-300 price range, I mostly listen to hip hop, some edm, some rock and some jazz/classical, the headphones will mostly be connected to a nexus 5x or a Dell XPS 10 laptop. I've been thinking about getting the ATH-M50x's however they are such a popular choice that it makes me suspicious so feel free to educate me if they are not the optimal choice for what I'm looking for. Thanks in advanced for taking the time to read and respond

Spend $50 more and get the Nighthawks.  They're great all rounders, and are worth a heck of a lot more.

Nighthawks are good but big and semi open. They r not fully closed. I wouldn't think they would be good for portable use. They r very comfortable though and do not have fatiguing treble. You would look pretty dumb wearing those things around in public. If ur going to be using them at home though then they r some great headphones if u like a rolled off treble.

Not sure what kind of a sound signature U like but Vmoda XS are not too expensive, sound pretty good ,are small and well built for portable use. They seem to sound good with the type of music u like.

Yeah the nighthawks are definitley a little big and out of my price range for the month (can't find them for under 600 in AUS) however they look like a fantastic set of cans and I would love to pick them up for home use in the future. I'll be perfectly honest Im so new to all this that I don't really understand what roll off treble is, I'm fairly confident that bass is gonna be the most important for me, 80% of the music I listen to is hip hop/rap. After watching some more reviews (particularly those done by z reviews) I think I'm gonna settle in the the sound magic hp150s, comfortable, foldable and decent quality for the price range.
