I have a WOW thing for my game system, and I discovered that when I plug in the headphone jack of my hd590's, there is a loud popping sound in the headphones. I found out that if I let the wow thing stay on for about 10 seconds before plugging in the headphones, there isn't a very loud pop. My question is whether or not these loud pops have damaged my headphones.

Thanks

this is very similar to a "turn-on thump" in regards to car audio amplifiers. most car amps now have a turn on circuit that mutes the amp for 2-5 seconds eliminating this problem.

while this turn on thump seems bad it usually isn't enough to damage your speakers/phones.

however i like to play it safe and suggest you do the same and turn it on and let it get in operation then plug in your cans and go kill some baddies!

Wow...sounds not so good

At first I was like "wow" but after a closer listen, I felt that it distorts the sound waaaaay too much to be worth any effects boost it may provide over very inexpensive speakers/headphones.

For good headphones, I don't see why you would use it at all

Are you a Windows XP or Media Player 7+ user? If so, just go into the menu options and there are some SRS Wow effects that you can experiment with. There is some hardware implementation as well but I think you can get a pretty good feel for what it does just by messing with the settings in Media Player.

It's more of a cheap dsp than an amp.
