i have read in various places that setting volume to maximum and disabling all equalization on a portable player's headphone-out results in a line-out.. what is the reasoning behind this?

that is only for the certain sharp portables (such as dr7/470/480), as far as i know. this is because they apparently have an automatic load-sensor on the jack that, at 250 ohms, will make the unit switch into their 'virtual' line-out mode. i say virtual, because it is not dedicated and is just the chip bypassing all eq, etc. settings.

on a further note, does anybody know if the ds8 have this feature as well?
