Hello, perhaps it is a dumb question from a newbie. I am looking for a headphone with great clarity like audio technica m50x but should have more bass ( something like v-moda m100). My budget is about  $300.00 Any recommendations? Do I need to sacrifice clarity if I need more bass?

So what's wrong with the M100? I think they had better clarity than the M50X, but because they have more bass, the mids are recessed a bit. So not lacking in clarity, just not as loud for other frequencies in relation to bass.

@cel4145  I thought the m100 sounded a bit veiled; like sound coming from another room. The bass was pretty cool though. What do you think?

#1: Use a parametric equalizer to tweak the sound. This can be done with any headphone. If all you want is more bass, that's very easy to do. Just pinpoint bass frequencies and increase them. Then you can experiment with other frequencies if that doesn't sound right to you.

#2: You can still import any headphone you want via the Internet, though it would cost a bit more.

#3: Do you need a closed-back headphone? Or can it be open-back?

I got no issues with open or closed back cans. Just looking for the right sound. Yeah, the cost of shipping would be too high to import from amazon or ebay, so don't really wanna choose that option unless I have to.

Actually, I am not too good at adjusting frequencies myself. Always end up making it sound worse, so just want to get the headphone with the right sound and leave the equalizer settings flat. That always works with bookshelf speakers.

The problem is, you said you wanted stronger bass than the M50x (which already has overwhelming bass) along with clarity too...and those two things tend to be mutually exclusive, though there are exceptions.
