good to hear :p

OP:
AD2000, have lush midrange combined with Snappy, fast bass that doesn't overpower the rest of the music *cough*underpowered HD650*cough*

Highs aren't rolled off IMO, they're not as pronounced as other cans - highs are very linear all the way into 20k. Also, AndrewWOT has AD2Ks with GS-1, if you want to pm him.

I think the AD2000s have plenty of highs, personally. Also, I don't see the point of having a "rock" RS1 and a "non-rock" AD2000 if he pretty much just listens to rock.

Do they both work well with the GS1? I don't have any experience with that amp.

I think, almost any HP will work wonders with the GS-1. Obviously some prefer other amps, but the GS-1, seems to be the "jack of all trades" amp.

uhh single ended b22 gets that title for me. GS-1 was pretty darn good though.

It's becoming harder to find someone who is willing to do the build. And I haven't seen to many B22's that sell for $1,000 either.

I know Rock Hopper Audio used to build them, but I'm not sure if he still does anymore.

you could email them - it was a relative bargain though.

But then again, why not just go balanced?

The only balanced amp I know of, that's $1,000 is the SP Square Wave XL. Mind to share what other balanced amps are out there for this price?

I would go with the grado's for classic rock. The senns more distant sound didn't suit me, but the best option would be to try as many phones as possible.

I don't think going balanced is a good idea in short term. Some phones respond very well to it (Sennheisers HD-6xx) but some don't make much difference (Grados).

I'm with other, try Grado RS-1 or RS-2 with classic rock. And get a complement HP like HD-600 or HD-650. Decide later for balanced amp or not...
