I'd like to fab an extension cable and some interconnects. For my extension I'll use Neutrik connectors and Belden 8413 cable. Any comments on my materials choice? When I make my solder connections will I need to somehow insulate them from each other? Any experience you'd like to share will be appreciated.

If your joints are good, no need to insulate them from each other. You will need to insulate them from the jacket though, usually the plugs come with a plastic insert to accomplish this.

The Mogami 2534 is 4 conductor cable, so I'm presuming that I combine 2 leads into one channel. After I remove the jacket far enough to make up my joins is there any harm in twisting the leads together and then tinning the stripped portion before I solder them to the connector? This would make for neater work, but I don't want to cause any noise in the line. Thanks to all. BTW. I'm using Kester 44 60/40 solder.

There is also a canare, star quad configuration, intended for mics sometimes used for that purpose, I do not remeber the numbers now but do a search and you will find it, also they made it in a lot of colors to match your decor, markertek sell it very cheap, along with the mogami....
