Headphone cords (I think that's what you call the gold part that's plugged into jacks?)

I was wondering about durability and how it might affect sound quality. The gold cord of my headphones have been dropped, hitting the floor, and have touched rough surfaces. I'm wondering if it damages easily (gold is quite delicate after all) and if that will gravely affect the condition and performance of my headphonea overall.

For reference, I use ATH-M50x, Dunu Titan 5, and Hifiman re400.
