Heya,

as a direct result of discovering these boards a while ago i ended up buying a pair of Sennheiser HD600s. I use these on a day to day basis for gaming/music/etc etc and they are approximately 1 year old.

As i'm sure most of you know, HD600s have a velvety lining on the cups which makes them - very comfy, but they get dirty. Is there any way of cleaning these safely? or possibly are they easy to replace?

thanks!

Kurt

They are very easy to replace. Grab and pull off, then go buy a new set

Cleaning? Mild soapy solution would be my guess, but I have yet to try.

I like them better when they soften up so I would try cleaning as a first step

We all need to do a search. I believe I read something on this subject not long ago.

I have a few months until the kids stop beating-up my wallet for the Holidays and I can give it back to HeadFi for additional abuse, but HD-600s are in my future and I'd certainly like to know as well!

Originals! I cannot imagine a generic that would fit!

Sennheiser are very good with spares. Man you can buy pads for very old phones (414?). All their dealers can provide replacement parts (almost every part!)

Be aware that these earpads are quite expensive, actually they're the most costly ones for Senns. (Poor HD545 owners.) Besides, after only a year they shouldn't be so worn-down that a replacement would be necessary, my 7-year-old HD590 pads with quite a bit of use on them are still doing reasonably well. Only recently did I try washing them using some dishwashing liquid (followed by rinsing with clear water and pressing out most of the H2O, a towel was quite useful for drying thereafter), which did get rid off a lot of lint and stuff while not leaving the pads very unsightly (a little glossy here and there but still as soft as ever) - hardly a scientific procedure and only recommended as a last resort, but together with a foam cleaning and driver de-hairing it was well worth it in this case. I would try various ways of dry cleaning first.
