Hi I am planning to buy a good headphone. I like to listen to detailed music (not very heavy bass). These are the headphone that I have known so far but can't decide which one I should buy because I don't have a chance to listen to them.
ATH W5000, DENON D5000, JVC DX1000. Any recommendation for me? I think Comfort and sound quality is the most important thing for me.
Thanks

Hmm, I have not heard any of the phones you have listed, but imho, you should turn your head towards the AKG K701's. They do not come anywhere near your $800 price point, but an amp is highly recommended for them, so perhaps you could get the K701's and a decent amp (an RSA Hornet or SR-71 maybe?) to get the sound you are after. The K701's are wonderfully detailed, and do not focus too much on heavy bass. They still have good bass, but by good I mean controlled and accurately reproduced. Hope Ive been of some help, good luck.

Thank for your help. I aslo know that AKG701 is a very good detail headphone because I owned one (only 3 days) and decided to sell them right away. The reason is that the stupid designed headband of it hurt my head a lot after 30min listenning.

$800 can buy you some serious headphones. You might want to provide more information on your choices of music or listening preferences.

What's your major genre of music ?
Do you prefer closed or opened phones ?
What's the most important range of the frequency spectrum ? Bass, Mid, or Treble ?

...etc...

Many of us can provide great info. if they know more about what you want.

D5000 has some serious bass.

Do you have an amp? The vast majority of high-end headphones require amplification to perform well. If not, you should budget the cost of one as well.

Have you ever considered electrostatic headphones? They're not very bass-heavy (usually, though some are exceptions) and excel at detail and soundstage (once again, usually but with exceptions). $800 alone can buy you a Stax SR-202 with the 252 amp, or a used SR-303 or SR-404 with the SRM-313 amp. There is also vintage Stax, but prices on that gear are very inflated right now. Because of their transparency, these headphones will require a very good source as well. They do have some issues with midrange neutrality - there is a spike in the upper mids that makes some instruments sound a bit brittle and thin. But on the whole, they're quite good. Audition them if you can rather than buying blind. I think you might like them a lot.

I haven't heard any of the headphones you listed, so I can't really advise you there.

I'd suggest the Grado RS1 and one of the well known tube or hybrid amp. You can roll the tube to your taste.

Don't hesitate to buy used. It's the best way to minimize loss if you want to upgrade later.

Enjoy.

When you decide to upgrade your setup, you must look for gear with good sinergy. If you describe your favorite genre, or what bands do you listen the most, we'll be able to indicate headphones and amps more properly to your taste of music, savvy ... ?

What record player, CD player, or DAC are you planning on hooking the amp to?

Edit: Some people are more senstive to Grado earpads than others. I could wear mine for a couple hours without discomfort but there are more comfortable headphones out there. Sennheiser HD580, HD600, HD650 are all comfortable, I've found Beyedynamic DT770 and DT880 comfortable. I've spent countless hours wearing my audio-technica ATH-A900LTD. STAX Lambdas are comfortable to me, I've owned four different pairs. The JVC HP-DX1000 is comfortable but it doesn't have enough clamping force to stay on my small head.
