I have a Revox B226 CD player connected to a Corda HA-2 with Sony MDR-7506 headphones. Frankly, I don't hear any difference between the headphone jack on the CD player and the HA-2 's output. the only difffernce is that the HA-2 output can really crank up the volume. The crossfade switch on the amp doesn't seem to do much either. All this talk of how headphone amps make your headphone 's sing is a bunch of hogwash.

Good way to make a "splattering" of a first post - not!

I can tell you'll be banned soon.

Well, before we brand you as a troll, let us look at the situation.

You have $100 headphones which are fairly easy to drive hooked up to a $500 amplifier. Your CD player seems to be of good quality (I have zero experience with this company but that player has a msrp of $1600) but really, you can't expect your system to just SHINE when your headphones are really just entry level quality cans.

It is akin to adding an amp for the Grado SR60's. Frankly, you don't get much more from them out of a crazy amp vs. the output of a pcdp.

Go out, test some higher end cans and then come back and tell us headphone amps don't make a difference.

Seriously you will see the light, then thank us profusely for pushing you to get better headphones and enjoying your fine fine amp.

I suggest you try the Sennheiser HD600's. Run them from your cd jack and then from your headphone amp and see the differences

As an aside, it is possible your cd player happens to have an incredible headphone circuit. For the majority of devices out there, this is not the case.

So whats your bitch? Sell the HA-2, pocket the cash, think of all the money your saving, and be happy. Oh, and thanks for clearing it up for the rest of us.

Zanth,

You're way too easy on this guy! If he had done even the slightest amount of reading of these forums, he's know that while we may disagree on the merits of our various equipment, one tenant that is almost universally held by this community is the value of a headphone amp, any headphone amp. To make so blatant a remark is trolling in the first degree.

Onemalt, I would agree with you up to the point that a player may have a damn fine headphone circuit. For example, my cd player or say the Sonic Frontiers Preamps (headroom circuit) etc.

With his, as tanfenton so accurately and eloquently put it, "turd" headphones, he won't really be able to enjoy the merits of the HA-2 if his cd player has a half decent circuit.

It is true, he may be troll. He may be deaf, but I'll cut him some slack until he posts again.

I know I would be miffed if I had dropped $500 or so on a piece of equipment and heard no difference.

this is why Zanth is a Mod -- true diplomacy.

I have to agree with everything Zanth said. I would be extremeley upset if my purchase of an amp yielded no results. In fact, when I first purchased my Meta42, I heard little improvement. However, as the amp burned in, the differences became very noticable, and now, listening to the stock CDP headphone out is bascially unlistenable.

If you want to stick with your Sony V6, then sell your Corda. If you want a better sounding headphone experience, try getting better headphones to pair with your quality CDP and amp.

I have heard the Cordas (HA-1 and Prehead) and they DO in fact make a huge difference in the sonic quality of music. Each of my amps improve the sound coming from my source to my headphones, so from my experience, and from what I gather from this forum, unequivocally, headamps DO make a difference.

If you feel attacked by this community, I'm sorry. However, your post seems closeminded re: headamps, as debasing all headamps based on your one experience does fit the bill of "trolling."

Give other phones a shot, and enjoy the music

Second verse, the same as the first.

There was a thread awhile back called "Amps do nothing" in which a newbie stated he couldn't tell the difference between his ety's amped with his Cosmic out of his discman, and the discman's headphone jack. So, therefore, we are all ripping ourselves off and amps, in fact, are worthless. Uh-huh. Right.
