I just bought a pair of HD525's from an audiophile friend of mine, plus I just bought a pair of HD580's and HD600's online. The 580's I found on AudioGon a couple nights ago, the 600's right here on Head-Fi tonight.

Right now, I'm using the Sennheiser DSP 360 headphone amp in bypass mode. (I'm not one for all the DSP garb). It sounds pretty decent except that it lacks bass and the top end is a little rolled off. The freq resp is only 40Hz - 18kHz. Like I said, it doesn't sound that bad, but with the 580's and 600's on the way, I want and need something better to power them.

My friend has a HeadRoom Total AirHead that he will let me have for cheap. If so, will it provide the full spectrum of sound that I want and need, plus the power the Senns need to perform their best? Or is the Corda a better match to these cans?

Either way, I want an amp with the crossfeed feature. The only ones I know of are the HeadRoom and Corda amps, and some of these home-grown Meta42 amps floating around here.

I know it's not a Cosmic or Max, but it has to be better than my DSP 360.

Well, since I got so many replies to this thread,

, I searched around and found a HeadRoom Cosmic right here on Head-Fi for $200 in "like new" condition, so I bought it.

I think I'm gonna lay low for the rest of this month and just settle down with my new equipment on the way. Maybe later on, I will upgrade to Cardas cables for the cans or something, or maybe get one of the upgrade kits for the Cosmic. Until then, I'm just going to sit back and rediscover my cd collection while surfing around here in the forums.

I bought the 580's because their price was within reach.

The next day or so, I bought the 600's because they were at a price that I never thought they would be. I just couldn't pass up the deal.

If anything, I can always turn around and resell the 580's at a later date.

Chops, Sell the 580's and get the cable upgrade for your HD600's, you won't regret it.

Great minds think alike.

When I go to buy a cable, which should I get? Any ideas or suggestions?

Cardas has theirs, along with ClouCable and Equinox, and now Russ Andrews has the HC1 Headphone cable and Zu Cables is coming out with one in a few weeks. There might even be a couple others that I can't think of right now.

My audiophile friend has tried the Clou and Equinox, and decided that the best one was the Cardas. However, these new ones that are coming out may or may not be better and possibly cheaper.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.......

I can throw in a vote for the Cardas. I love what that cord does for my 600s. Makes them an entirely new headphone!

Another "go for it" on the Cardas. I like them a lot better than my Clous.

You know, that's exactly what my friend says about his Cardas/HD600 combo. He said it was like a new set of cans.

Actually, these were the ones I was probably going to go with anyway. I love the way his set-up sounds.

In fact, that's why I'm getting the HeadRoom Cosmic, because of his, eventhough his is the Cosmic Reference. But hey, anything is better than my Sennheiser DSP 360 headphone amp.

BTW kwkarth, while browsing your profile, I saw that you have a Sennheiser DSP Pro. What is it and what does it look like? Is it anything like the DSP 360 of mine? Any pics maybe? Just curious.

The DSP-Pro is billed as "The ultimate in surround sound for your headphones or stereo loudspeakers."

The DSP Pro has all the features of the DSP 360 with the addition of sound fields, an extra headphone socket, and 15 selectable virtual-seating positions. The sonic performance is pretty much the same. Nothing to write home about, but it's fun to play with.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that huge thing. Looks more like a remote control.

I messed with those different setting one time with the DSP 360 and thought they all sucked. They cause too much distortion and make everything boomy. I always use mine in bypass mode anyway.

But, once I get the HeadRoom Cosmic in, I will be retiring this thing.
