I have been testing new headphones, and fallen in love with the HD-800. I listen to & make a lot of intricate electronica (think aphex twin, Autechre, modular synth music, old analogue synths , techno & electro) & being able to hear so much detail & separation between layered synths has been totally inspiring in the few days I've been using them up against the LCD-Xs and my other headphones (dt770 pro, ultrasone proline 2500, hd 25).
This is just out of the cheap headphone output of a behringer UMC404HD USB interface. I want an upgrade, something with inputs from line RCA so I can change between my mixing desk and my hifi (Townshend rock reference deck into EAR 802 tube pre) with more juice to drive them properly.
Now I might throw some buzzwords into the mix here, but I want something energetic and punchy, strong bass, and uncoloured. I want the richness and warmth to come from the music, not the amp.
Any recommendations? My budget isn't fixed, but i'm trying to keep it less than £800.
i'm interested in peoples views of say, the difference between a magni 3 and something like a burson ha-160
