I just got a Canon Elura 100 digital camcorder, and I'd like to find a way to plug headphones in it to monitor what I'm taping, so as to ensure the audio's being recorded appropriately. It has an AV terminal, but not a dedicated headphone jack. From what I gathered talking to other audiophiles, I'll need an amplifier to make the audio signal from the AV terminal suitable for headphones; the specs for the camcorder's audio output are "-10 dBV (47 kohms load)/3 kohms or less".

What I'm wondering is how I can calculate the input impedance of a CMoy amp, and what kind of changes I would need to make to the general schematic so that it can be used with my camcorder. It's been a long while since I've built a circuit, so feel free to talk to me like I'm a noob.

In the event that a CMoy amp can't offer what I'm looking for, can anyone suggest other options? The most desirable attributes would be small size, battery-powered, and (of course) minimal impact on the wallet.

Thanks in advance.

I think you can select the output to be headphone in the menu of the cannon can't remember right now but I did look at the camera and I think the av jack is for both purposes.
