So I'm in the market for a pair of audiophile quality headphones and am considering purchasing the Beyerdynamic DT880's. I will be listening from my macbook pro most of the time, possibly my ipod in rare situations. I have $500 to spend on the headphones and an amp/DAC. How would the ibasso D2 Boa's pair with the Beyerdynamic's? Any other suggestions for a headphone/amp combo for the money?

You never mentioned what music you would be listening to. I do not thnk the D2 would be even close to good enough for the DT880. You most likely want a tube amp and a DAC or something like the Hifiman EF-2 maybe?

i can get either the 32 ohm or the 250 ohm from headphone.com for 270 w/ free shipping. that leaves me with ~$230 to spend on an amp/dac.

been doing a little research, and i found the Little Dot MK III Headphone Tube Amplifier/Pre-Amp on ebay for what i would think is a good price. according to a few treads i skimmed over, this amp can drive the beyers relatively well, correct?

and how essential is a DAC to have at first? i realize that the Little Dot does not have a usb DAC built in. is this something better kept as a separate unit to be purchased at a later date?
