New to forum although I have been browsing it for a while now and am in need of a bit of help as I have a problem I cannot work out.
I recently purchased a 2nd hand Schiit Asguard headphone amp (brilliant condition on the outside, no marks and all the connections look good) and for a small time, it was good. I then started to have problems with the left channel, it would go quiet and intermittent. So I swapped the cable over at both ends (the DAC at the time was an SMSL M3) - still with the left channel (I wanted to check the cable first) it was whilst doing this that I noticed that the powered speakers (corsair sp2500) were also going quiet in the left channel (I was using a Y cable for the amp) but only when the left channel was connected at the amp end. I then proceeded to try as many variations as I could think of with the cables I had to get it to work, but no matter what I tried as soon as the left channel was connected to the amp, it went quiet (with or without the speakers connected, so I do not think they are connected to the fault). So at this point I was suspecting that the Asguard was a dud, then the problem got confusing.
As a last resort I used a headphone jack to RCA adapter to connect the Asguard to the headphone jack part of the M3, expecting the same problem, but to my surprise it worked perfectly.
I did some searching was a blank for what could cause the fault.
I managed to get lucky on an ebay bid and won a HRT music streamerII for a great price and thought that as the M3 was the only thing I had not removed from the possibilities this may solve the problem.
Got it, connected it up first on a laptop, worked perfectly, connected it to the system and the speakers, still working perfectly. Connected the left channel to the Asguard, the fault is back.
Doe anyone have any suggestions or troubleshooting tips to go down? I am willing to give anything a try as I don't really want to spend any more money on equipment. The bit that really surprises me is that the Asguard works fine when connected to a 3.5mm jack, but not when connected directly to RCA.
I hope someone can help
