Hello,

I am looking for in-ear headphones, looking to spend around the £70-£100 mark as the quality is very important to me. I would prefer something that handles bass quite well.

I have used the search function but must of the headphones are around the £30-£40 price range, which I have tried endless times with no real results.

I have been recommended 'Ultimate Ears' for the in-ear ones... anyone used/can recommend these? Which model would you say is best worth the price?

Thanks

v i've had the UE metro.fi 200, metro.fi 2, super.fi 5eb and the triple.fi's. I love ue, however my new love are the Radiopaq earphones. Great value for money, they're going for a reasonable price now, but if i'm correct, stay away from the 'Full range from HMV' mark2410 bought a pair if i'm right, and they weren't that good if my memory serves me right.

but the UE's rule when it comes to bass, and i still love 'em regardless of Logitechs interference.

What I am trying to work out, is will I be able to notice a significant difference between something like UE 3's, which are about £60 and the £130 UE 7's?

If there is a £70 difference in sound quality then perhaps I can justify paying for them.

Well the Bass is going to be a little better on the SuperFi.5EB, but the UE700 are very small and compact. If I had to choose between the 2, I would want the UE700. Both are Dual Drivers. You could do some re-search the sound signature of the 2 and pick the 1 that you would like best. But both should hold up well.

If you find a pair of 'phones you love they will pay you back however much you spent on them. Often big jumps in cost do mean little changes, but if those changes are significant enough to give you that extra bit of joy it's worth it.

It's a real mine field though as there are so many out there and so many different opinions. Looking to someone who knows a lot and owns a lot of headphones can help as people will often just recommend what they own and love but don't have a wide range of experience in how they compare to others. But of course their tastes may differ to yours...

That caveat in place though, I have found this guy dfkt's opinions to be pretty spot on when it comes to headphones in the past, here's a spreadsheet he made ranking and judging the many IEMs he owns which might help:

Hands up I haven't tried the IE7's for two reasons. One there are bucket loads of fakes around, and secondly bar for fakeheadphones.com I just don't do Sennheiser earphones, I much prefer UE's.

The 5EB's however were a big disappointment. I found them to be far too big, far too heavy, far too uncomfortable, and whilst the lows were deep and crisp the midrange was painfully out of sync. I got rid of them in the end and got the triple.fi’s, which are good ... provided you buy custom ear buds for them.
