Ok so I got into headfi a few years ago and recently due to WFH have gotten much more involved in my headphone system I'd like to buy a new set of cans and would love the groups advice.

Setup:

  • DAC: Schiit Gungir (balanced)
  • AMP: Woo Audio WA22 (balanced)
  • Tubes recently upgraded and in process of burning in (recently replaced as I burnt through my original OEM set):
    • Rectifier: Sophia Electric 274B
    • Power: Tung Sol 7236
    • Driver: RCA 6SN7GTb
Current Headphones: HD650 (balanced), AKG 712 Pro

I'm looking for a set of cans that can be described as both fast/detailed (like the AKG's, but also not clinical. Something a little more fun/warmish like the HD650s) I'm willing to compromise on both extremes so just looking for ideas here.

Some can's on the short list of headphones but feel free to add so I can do some research:

Beyer T1.2 - can the amp drive these well?

Hifi Ananda - concerned about build quality

HD800s - top of price range, concerned they might be a little too analytical (like the AKGs?)

Audeze X - top of price range, have heard good things

Ideally I'd like to keep the cans ~1000 less. Please help!
