Hi, just wondering what differences these would make to my sr80. I've been wanting to buy some liberators but they are mythical.
The woodies seem longer and would probably have a similar effect to the liberators. But the price is quite steep for these full can replacements.
Judging from the rarity of liberators, would they cost as much as the woodies?
I would prefer the reversibility of the liberators but if they would cost just as much as woodies and sound similar then wood would be my choice.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

renugaid

Try two bowl pads together. It will be very similar to the Liberators.

What do you mean? Just taping them together?

Actually the woodies would extend beyond the drivers outward. In contrast, the liberators put space between the drivers and your head. I imagine that this is the reason why double bowling would make more of a similar sound than the woodies. However, I am not sure...never heard the woodies. The only problem would be with the headband clamping down on your head with the bowls being smooshed. I can forsee that already.

Yeah you can just tape them together. Or you can just put them together with no adhesive because the clamp from the headband will keep them together.

Bowls pretty much do what Liberators do, which is just put distance between you and the driver. However you can do other things with the Liberators like mod the MS1 to MS1000. So maybe it is worthwhile to spend some bucks on the Liberators.

Ahh! right! that part totally slipped my mind. So in theory they could even be used together?

Yeh was interested in trying something similar to the ms1000 with my sr80s. Anybody tried that? link me?

I edited my previous post, so I don't know if you caught this:

Yeh I ran into that problem pretty much instantly as i tried it on one ear. Wouldn't be good unless there was some kind of mold to hold the second bowl in place AND in shape like a hard plastic pipe of some sort.

BTW. How have your liberators changed the sound of the sr60?

HeadCoverage's woodies are reversable, which is awesome if you want to move up the Grado line. Though I'm not sure if the cups are any less secure if you don't permanantly mount them.

really? hmmm but what I meant by reversible was more to do with not having to pull apart the original state to modify them. The mods I've made aren't permanent right now but currently just for comfort or convenience. The liberators or woodies would be the first sound altering mod I'd be making.

Sorry renugaid, didn't see this post. So far the libs seemed to have widened the soundstage as promised. However, instead of feeling like I am in the front seat, I feel like I am somewhere in the middle of the "show" just taking it all in. I guess it depends on what you like in terms of sound sig, but I am a "front row" kind of gal haha.

What is really strange about Liberators or DIY distancers is the fact that their effect differs widely from utilized pads. I've tried flats, reversed 414s, stock 414s and Bowls - with all these pads, you get at least a bit more soundscape, but nothing spectacular. But you do get a bit strange coloured mids with all these. I favour stock sound meanwhile.

Now the GS1000 pads. The soundscape suddenly gets absolutely monstrous (K1000 territory), the bass diversifies, the treble increases (depending from model), the mids lose a bit energy (at least with MS1, SR225 and RS1 - not MS Pro).

I do not really understand the topic of this thread though. A distancer or the long gone Liberators are one thing to alter/improve sound, whereas a woody is something completely different out of the "boutique / voodoo hifi" scene. Woodying my MS1 did next to nothing for the sound - it only pushed my ego.
