The k701 headband will soften up after enough use.

To accelerate the process I "rolled" the headband back and forth a few times flexing it somewhat sharply. This reduced the stiffness.

I read of another H-Fi'er using saddls soap or leather conditioning oil.

But time and use alone will do if you ae patient. In the meantime just move the band to a different spot on your noggin' when it hurts.
