Hi Head-Fi

I seem to have gone overboard collecting tubes, like 12AT7 and 6922 and their many equivalents.

I own following amps that use these tube families:
XCAN-V3
Earmax Pro/AE

Anyone know of any other headamps or pre-amps that make use of either or both of these tube families.

Tube hoarding is a disease...whereas headphone/headamp collecting is a sane and legitimate hobby ;-)

thanks!

thanks sacd lover

The Woo series looks very interesting to me and directly compatible.

Not sure about messing around with adaptors on singlepower amps.
Their website makes no mention of this.

I'll search/read up further on these suggestions in their appropriate threads.

thanks again

The Mapletree HD can use a 12AT7 in place of the 12AX7/5751.
My HD100 was supplied new with one when Lloyd run out of his original choice tubes.

My Berning micro-ZOTL uses the 12AT7 as one of a set of two. The other is the 6SN7.

I'm going to look into a Woo 3+, as it looks like a nice amp for the price, with plenty of reviews on this site, and I can roll in the 6922 types I have.

I've never used any of the bigger power tubes, so I'd get some real glow-in-the-dark thrown in the mix, despite having to add another tube type (6AS7/6080) into the mix, but it's only a single power tube, unlike some others...

I guess it's a bit backwards looking for an amp to match tubes, but I've already invested quite a bit in them.

I also now realize that 'headamp' is a brand, so I shouldn't use it as an abbreviation of headphone amplifier.

thanks all

I think it's the ECC #1 adapter that takes a 12AT7. At least I hope so

-- that's what I've been using.

The 12AT7 might be my favorite input tube on the Extreme.

I was responding to the the 6922. The ECC #1 is used for the 12xx7 series of tubes.

So, I tried the Woo Audio WA3+.
What did I think of it? I sent it back...

...in order to upgrade to a WA2 (headphone only) with blackgates and 5998 tubes, which Jack agreed to do, as I only had the WA3+ a weekend! Can't wait for it to arrive in a week or two maybe.

The WA3+ looks fantastic in black, and the initial out-of-box sound (with HD650) was enough to convince me that the WA2 would be well worth it, even if it's only slightly better.

Only problem is that I wanted another relatively cheap amp to make use of some of the tubes I had already over-collected (ECC88/6DJ8 etc. family). It does use them, so that criteria has been satisfied. However, I've now acquired examples of 6AS7G, 6520, 6080, 5998, 7236, 6X4 etc. for this amp, which kind of negates my logic!

At least I was able to use a reasonable excuse to justify to myself a new amp!

I'll have to be good to my wallet now for a while...but I'm sure my ears and eyes will be pleased for much longer!

Oh yeah, this is Head-Fi...

I don't understand your superior logic - my twisted logic is so much more fun!
Besides, having seen the recent spike in prices for NOS tubes, I think I'll keep my (really quite small) tube stash for a few years, acquired at very much cheaper prices, and sell them later when I want to retire early!
