I love this place.

I have had a chance to meet a bunch of you guys at the last few meets(minus the Bay Area and DC meets, which I missed) and have made some great new friends.I know I complain(a lot) about how things have gotten mean and confrontational around here but I still love the place cause' I get to talk with all my buds about all kinds of stuff, headphones or otherwise.Nowhere else have I made so many good friends on the net. When we meet in person it's like we already know each other well and conversations seem to pick up where they left off in the threads.I really love the meets and I hope to make a bunch more of them in the future(if I'm invited).

I think I have talked on the phone to at least one friend I have made on Head-fi every day over the last few months.I have traded, loaned and borrowed gear from so many of you guys I have a hard time remembering who has all my stuff and who's stuff I have.I get so much great advice and recommendations from you guys that I rarely buy new gear until I see what is said here first about it.

As much as I like having a bunch of friends,I love trading stuff and exchanging gifts.I have gotten a lot of really cool stuff from you guys, from cables,records,CDs,T-shirts,ROOTBEER (thanks Ken),to some really great books.Someone,I forgot who, even sent me a roll of Audiophile Gift wrap.I even got a really cool 1960's Sears catalog from a head-fi member and I sent him a video I made showing how to set-up a cartridge.I think I got the better of that deal.By far the best thing I have received from you all is the well wishes when I was sick and bummed out. Those really made me feel better.I got a huge pile of cards, flowers, letters and such from the corners of the Earth but reading you guy's posts made my days and nights in the hospital seem shorter. All the humorous emails and ***** links helped too.

I just wanted to spread the love while I'm sipping on my Brooklyn Rootbeer that Highwaystar sent me yesterday and let you guys know that we can't let the bad stuff ruin head-fi for us.This is a great place and I'll do my part to keep it this way.

Nice to hear you're doing better Tuberoller. Let me know when we are going to check out some more high fi toys. I went recently to Celestial Sound in Evanston. Have you ever been there? They had some really nice and expensive toys like massive tube mono-blocks. I think the guy said they go for $14,000 the pair. Hey, I can dream can't I!!

They also had a huge set of Meridian speakers that were about $50,000 the guy said. They were playing some music but I was not really impressed by the way they sounded. The reason this place stuck in my mind is that one of the sales guys asked me about my equipment and I told him about the RKV I couldn't find tubes for. He asked what kind of tubes it takes and I told him they were PCL 805 tubes. He told me that a lot of those tubes are still made and that he could get some for me. I just rolled my eyes and knew at that point he was full of crap. I didn't take him up on his offer but somebody else may want to give them a call. They can be reached at (847)424-1480.

I also did check out Red Rose Music on Wells. It's right next to the Hooters!!

They had a cool home theater room with a Sharp projector and NHT(I think) speakers. Yeah, I didn't think these guys would be into home theater at all either. The guys there were cool as hell and asked me to come back anytime. They said just to call them ahead of time and they would set up anything I wanted to listen to, that's cool.

Celestial sound is a good hifi store, let alone 5 blocks from my home. I thought the Meridian speakers were awesome, but they were also playing classical, which I never really listen too, so I'm not sure how they would go w/ rock. They really sounded good. I purchsed tubes from Mike there, and they were brand NOS. He gave me ten tubes to bring home, and I just bought the ones I liked. This happened the first time I walked into the store front. They also cost about $10 less than everywhere else (RCA cleartops, Jan Phillips 12ax7) . I Just wish that I felt more comfortable hanging out and just listening. I felt like they knew they knew alot more about sound then I. I feel it is good to start out humbly, then work your way up. A headfier bought a full Accuphase system from them, and if you plan on paying MSRP, I would definetly go. They also have Viva mono's, and Avantegarde speakers. They just became a Meridian dealer a few weeks ago.

Both Mike and Ricardo ( I believe they are co-owners) are really cool dudes. One of the better hi-end stores in greater Chicago area. I don't think they mind you hanging out listening.

Across from 'em is Audio Insultants who when I visited there, gave me a 'head-to-toe' look over and won't let me in the locked listening room. At down town store, one of the sales person told me pointing to vpi turn table ( this wasn't even the TNT ) 'Don't touch that. Do you know how much it is?! '

Needless to say, I haven't been back there ever since.
