Head-Fi Basshead IEM thread (lists page 1)

Depending on what phone you have, an amp isn't needed for the 7550. something like of the Lg V series with its 2vrms is good enough to push the 7550. with just tape mod and average phone power, the 7550 are good.

I have never heard the g10 but 7550 digs deep and is very impactful.

Thanks, for some reason I was under the impression that it was semi-mandatory to amp the 7550. I know that driver size isn't everything, but from a physics standpoint it would seem the 7550 would have an edge over the G10 in the sub bass department because it's 16mm (vs. 10mm for the G10), and the 7550 has a bigger housing. I have a Samsung Galaxy S8, not sure if it's considered a high output phone or not.

I have the G10 on my wishlist too. It fits my preferred sound signature of flat mids and highs with elevated sub-bass.

Apparently they work well when amped too, but I'd love for someone on this thread to share their experience with the G10 amped and un-amped to give an idea of how much power they can handle.

I own MDR-7550 and have a fit problem. The first problem is, that sometimes the seal is just not good enough. The second problem I have, it's with the right ear, where the monitor doesn't correctly align with the ear canal, causing a "loss" of sound.

Can you recommend some ear tips to deal with those problems? Thanks!

Of course mooooore power is always better, but its not needed for regular listening levels. You do need it for basshead levels though.

Hard to reccomend tips since everyones ear is different. What I found to work for the 7550 and ex1000 is to use over sized tips and have it seal the outer part of the canal. I'm using xl Sony hybrids, XL jvc spiral dots, and XL aurisonic surseals. All work well for me. Some here have jad good luck with foam tips.

I'm looking to get a pair of quality bass IEMs as I find myself listening to more pop and hip hop. I want great sub-bass, but also IEMs where the bass isn't boomy or bleed into the mids and highs. For reference I have the HE-400i (clear bass which can hit but not much sub-bass though), the on ear Onkyo ES-HF300 (punchy, deep hits, but not a lot of quantity), and the over ears Vmoda M100 (good bass quantity, but not detailed and muddied). I've narrowed down my options to IE-80, 7550s, RHA T10, T20, and the Westone W30, but do not have the ability to try any of them. Which would be the best for what I'm looking for?

I'm very intrigued by these JVC HA-FX99X's
Also, after getting deeper into the thread, I'm finding myself more and more drawn to the Futuresonics G10. While $200 is steep for an IEM with non-removable cables and plastic housing

FYI Musicteck has the G10 on sale for $159 for black friday http://www.musicteck.com/blackfridaypreview

Personally would take the G10 over x99x (imo does not blow xb90 "out of the water" but is a lot easier to drive), but for people who value soundstage and detail sparkle it's not a great match. Been a long time though so I won't make a definitive statement about bass.

IDK the others, but do not get the IE80.

earsonic velvet, get the v2, durability is improved

They look amazing, but sadly out of my price range. I'm more looking in the $150-$350 range. I did see the G10 are going to be 160 and heard they are pretty good. I also can get the 7550 for under $200 and it seems to be well liked with the taped mod. Is there anything a little cheaper than the Earsonic that you'd suggest for me?
