Head-Direct RE0 Appreciation Thread

Hello everyone,
I thought it was time for the RE0 to receive its own appreciation thread. I hope to get some opinions on tips, genres and sources.
In my opinion the RE0 is awesome in particular the smoothness/detail combination.
Artists like: Bob Dylan, Steely Dan and CCR sound great.
I do, however, have issues with the built quality and the headphone splitting. I popped it back together and I hope its going to last me another few years

Eheh, that makes at least three of us here on head-fi who've had split RE0 casings. I recommend that you send it back in since it's likely it'll come apart again.

On a positive note, the sound is really something. It's amazing how detailed these are, I'm enjoying familiar tracks like new ones now.

How come there is not a big post count in this thread?

I just received my new RE0's today. I was very surprised how deep the bass was and of course the amount of details. IMO the RE0's have plenty of bass, I thought it was a bass light IEM but there is all the bass I need. I considered the Denon C700, but the treble it produced where sibilant to my ears at some point in the frequency range. I chose these instead because of the great value and the reviews said the RE0's had little to no sibilance and yet at the same time fine details

I really love these headphones. I use them with my iPhone 3G S and they sound great!

If I had it my way, they'd have a little more bass and lower impedance but for the price I really can't complain.

Very pleased. My SE530's and Walkman get very little use these days.

Also suprised this thread isn't gaining much attention. They seem to be getting praised in every other IEM thread!

They are very detailed and balanced, that's for sure. I use the comply T-400s with mine and the isolation is so great I could barely hear the table saw I was using the other day!
The bass may be light for some but I can confirm that a little bass boost (E5, CMoy, etc.) can really turn that around with little side effects.

I own the RE0 for about 2 days now,and I already dare to say that they kick the Shure E5's butt.
It's a $500 sound.The detail is so high.Guitars and hihats are amazing.Bass is just in balance with the rest of the sound.Speed is also great.
I use the medium tips, the fiio E5 to soup the bass a bit up.Flacs are fed by a rockboxed iriver H320.
Maybe going to look for a juicier amp,but this combo is already almost perfect.
Suggestions for a good RE0 amp are welcome in this thread.

RE-0 crew checking in on one. This is by far my favorite IEM. I prefer them over my W3 in classical and jazz music. The clarity and balance just makes me smile all day.

I have tried bass boosting it, but I feel like it ruins the tightness in the bass, which I prefer from bass quantity.

Love mine so far. Huge upgrade from my UHP336's. Until last night, I had no idea there was a tambourine in Sabbath Bloody Sabbath! It still amazes me how I hear something new in songs that I've listened to hundreds of times before. Worth every cent I paid for them.

Another very happy RE0 owner here. I run them unamped out of a Fuze w/ no complaints.

I've lost all urge to upgrade after getting these. When I heard the SE530/W3, I enjoyed the presentation but found myself missing the RE0's sound.


The balance/clarity/detail/transparency still blow my mind every time I listen to it.

I like them a lot too. They have dethroned my PFE as my preferred earphone as of now.

The only issue I have is the insane level of microphonics the new cable has. Even the act of opening my mouth results in cable noise that's at least as loud as the music. I've been using them over-the-ear to reduce this effect. It's still nowhere near as silent as my PFE or UM2 though.

I agree. Microphonics is bad. Try using the ear guides that came with your PFE's when using them around your ear (if you haven't done so already). Aside from microphonics I also find that foam tips smoothens out the treble, but I don't prefer this. So I typically use silicon tips. The problem with this is that since the sound sig of the RE0's is so light, without complete isolation, a lot of that clarity is lost in the background noise. Add microphonics to that, the difference is HUGE to just sitting down at home listening to them. So I listen to my Re0's mostly at home.

Yeah, I may be going that direction too.

The guides are more secure but they actually don't help prevent microphonics in my case. Using them over-ear without the guides works better for me.

I think the RE0 is best if used in a quiet location while not moving. If I need to walk around campus all day, the PFE will outperform it.

Anyway, I'll do some more experimentation with tips, shirt clip etc to try to battle the microphonics.
