Hey guys,
Was going all over pulling my hair out with all of the recommendations and conflicting opinions for what amp to get for the HE-6 for under 1000 dollars. I finally decided to get a Marantz PM6005 and use the stereo output. What do you guys think about this? How much of an upgrade would this be from my previous combo of an HE-400i/Asgard 2?

Thanks!

How much of an upgrade is hard to tell because that depends on your preferences.
1- What's your current DAC?
2- Where's normally the volume pot when using HE-400i and Asgard 2? (Low or High Gain)?

If you are using speaker taps with the Hifiman speaker adapter, be careful on using the volume knob or buttons. Amps vary in current generation greatly and the HE-6 still has limits in power output.

1. Nuforce uDAC3. The PM6005 comes with a built in dac so if that's an upgrade then I will stick with just using it.
2. I keep it on high gain at around 12 oclock

Hmm, you're the first to mention that. Why was everyone recommending them?

Funny you should ask, as daltonlanny asked about Marantz amps with HE-6s here:

Why not PM daltonlanny about this?

Maybe because those of used to speakers, not just headphones, have already learned to be cautious about volume use? Underpowered and overpowered amps can blow speakers.
