Hello all,

I am the proud owner of the HE-400 and unfortunately, the cable has broken at the Hifiman connectors. I am a starving student/audiophile and cannot afford even the cheapest Hifiman cable. Not only that, but I absolutely HATE the Hifiman connectors!!! They always become loose no matter how much I tighten them or twist the cable. They're also not easily obtained. I had the idea of possibly replacing them with some 3.5mm headphone jacks since they are much more widely available. This is where I become unsure. I am not an electronics guru but I do have some past soldering experience.

I would like to know a few things:
  1. first and foremost.. would this even be possible?
  2. should the jacks be mono or stereo? I'd assume mono since they are for right and left
  3. is what I'm referring to even called a "jack"?

****I will be updating this post as I receive more opinions and come up with more questions. This is so far just a spur-of-the-moment thing and do not know for certain if I will end up pursuing it. I welcome ALL criticism, good or bad.
