Hi guys,

I've decided which couple of amp&phones to buy, but I still don't know which source to get.

I'm going to buy a pair of Beyers DT880 2005 and a Meier Corda Swing

The amp features:

Alps Blue Potentiometer.
3.2 Watts toroidal transformer.
Power uptake 2 Watts
Built-in groundloop breaker.
Low impedance electrolytic buffer capacitors.
Total Buffer capacity 38.000 uF.
Ceramic bypass capacitors in the power supply.
Polystyrol and polypropylen capacitors in the signal path.
Metalfilm resistors in the signal path.
Double sided PCB.
AD8610 opamps.
BUF634 buffer amplifiers at each output channel.

Now, I don't know whether to buy "just" a CD player or a 24bit/192KHz professional DAC, which would be a much more expensive solution, but will allow me to listen to HDfiles and DVDs also.

The question is... Will that amp be worth such a source?

Thanks

Source is everything.
Amp and Cans have a much smaller effect on the final sound than you'd expect, or have been led to expect.

I hope you understand my doubts, it'd be my first good system.
I was just thinking about the fact that the signal, even if coming from a great DAC, will have to pass through an unbalanced and mid-quality amp, so I asked myself whether it was the case to invest that much on the source...

BTW... thanks for the answer, I trust you!

As long as you're keeping your system as modular as possible, you've pretty much mitigated wasted expenses. A stand-alone good quality amp is a worthy purchase. You can always expand in both directions.

A DAC would allow the use of digital sources. If you choose to omit the DAC, then you're pretty much tied to sources with analog outputs. It's strictly a personal choice.

So, enjoy the "dilemma of choosing"...it's a hobby after all, and the journey through upgrades is part of the fun.

I don't know what you've been told, but many home audio surround recievers have a 192k/24 bit DAC built in. I happened to get one on closeout for $160 but I saw some others that cost even less than that.
