I'm pleased with the sound of my HD800. However, there are some moments when reduced treble energy and a more rich bass wouldn't be a bad thing. I've investigated several after-market cables for the HD800.

If I'm going to invest my time and money - at least $250 worth - I'd insist on a notable improvement. Do any of the current cables offer significant changes of sound - or are they just cables, and pretty much alike?

Well if Cardas cables for HD800 are anything like their HD600 cables then that's exactly what they did to my HD600. More bass and even less treble.

For this I suggest Canare L-4E6S. I don't know how to make a DIY cable for the HD-800, but if it's possible it should be under $40.
The wire itself is probably $1.50 per foot. Has anyone tried it?

I've found it to be terrible for the HD-650, but it's a nice match with my Q701.
