I am really curious how these two headphones stack up against each other. I am going to attempt to make the poll as specific as possible so we can see exactly how the two stack up against each other.

Please do not vote if you do not fit the criteria of any of the options.

I OWN both but prefer the HD800

For me the HD800 is clearly superior headphone, its sound is more natural, more balanced and much more detailed. The D7k is bass bloated but still is a very fun headphone for pop music. If i have to part with only 1 hp, i dont think i need even 1 second to think, the HD800 is that good.

Damnit!

I was going to make some sarcastic comment about how all the incredibly rich and highly informed people who own both are likely to give you an impartial and unbiased opinion!

And you ruined it for me!

Both have aspects that sound better than the other, the sound stage (although this can seem artificial and coloured) and clarity of the HD800s is top notch, but the bass and full home theater sound and synergy with rock with the D7000s is better...I prefer the D7000s as I listen to a lot of rock (a lot).

D7000s cost less than half of an hd800 (they're 500-600 new) so this comparison doesn't really make that much sense

an LA7000 will fall in the same price range and I like them more than hd800s. They also look a lot better IMO, which should be a consideration when you are buying $1000+ headphones

Exactly. The D7000 is a $500-600 headphone for a reason. I owned it and sold it within a two week period. The sound signature of Denon is just so off and fake sounding to my ears. It literally repulsed me from the start. I tried to like it though and gave it a fair two week chance with burn in and listening, but in the end nothing could cure it. The bass isn't nearly as good as some believe it to be, and the highs and midrange just sound wrong and recessed. I can see how it would sound good to those less experienced but, once you've tried the majority of the high end offerings, it simply cannot satisfy on any level.

The HD800, which I believe you own, is clearly in another realm. Buy the D7000 and compare them yourself. I assure you it will be up for sale quickly.

There are many, many very satisfied D7000s owners, just check out the D7000 thread. So you are one man's opinion...please keep it to that and note that you do not speak for the rest of us!

There are several other professional reviews that all denote just how great these cans are. I am not trying to change your opinion as obviously you closed it quite some time ago (and I really couldn't care less what you think), but for others reading this who have not heard them.

Owning a beyer T1, while I do prefer it, the D7000s IMO hold their own to these and the HD800s. I have zero plans on selling my D7000s. Other's (like Skylab and myself) prefer the D7000s to the HD800s.

They in no way sound fake...maybe you've never heard a good quality home theater, I happen to have one and the D7000s are the closest headphone representation to it...period. The HD800s are nice for light jazz, classical, but never got my toes tapping with rock music. They seemed overly analytical and not as musical to the D7000s to me with the music that I listen to. Now as we all hear differently, I can accept that others may prefer it and that's cool....unfortunately you can not!

I don't get this elitist "just because some retailers have sold it for less than the MSRP of $999, it can't sound as good". Here in Canada, it's going for $1299 pretty much everywhere and the T1s are going for $1050. Does that make them 20% better?

Owning both, the T1s are the superior headphone, but the D7000s are in the same class to me

Now, when we look at the actual cost of what it takes to build a T1, HD800, D7000s, I think you would be very surprised to see just how similar (and lower than the retail price) they all are.

On the AH-D 7000 joy ride! I was thinking how they were great but had some muddy lower mids. After a complete change out of interconnects and power cords who would have guessed, they became perfect.

It is all Power cord and interconnects to get there. The Denons are more than I could have ever dreamed. It is all about the rig setup. The Denon AH-D headphones are far better than HD-800s.

Virtual Dynamics Master Series RCA interconnects
Electra Glide Audio Reference Glide-Reference Standard "Fatboy" Power Cord
Electra Glide Audio Epiphany X2 Power Cord

Exactly my point! Many satisfied D7000 owners!

Subtle: Have you thought maybe your gear wasn't tuned right for them?
