Question: why would my HD650's have more volume out of a yamaha rx496 headphone jack then the SR80's(waiting for my headroom home to come back from headroom fixed)....or do I just not understand impedence? I thought that a 300 ohm vs lower impedence cans meant that it takes more power to drive them louder. But my SR80's take like a 12 o'clock setting to get the same volume as the 650's at an 8 o'clock setting

On a side note...the sr80's are almost unlistenable now that I have had the HD650's on my head for the last few days nonstop lol

Maybe the current of the headphone output is too low to drive low impedance headphones. On the other hand, if I'm not mistaken, SPL of the HD650 is higher than SR80. So one or both of those two factors may be the reason why SR80 sounds quieter than HD650.

Hmm. That makes sense. Im just basing my experience with a memory of an the HD580's that I owned a long long time ago when Circuit City still had high end senn's.(I opened the CC store in my town so I could buy them at cost) I remember that especially from portables I could get almost zero volume out of the senn's. I then picked up a pair of the Sr-80's and was wowed not only at the sound but also at the volume I could get out of a portable.
