hi guys
i earlier used audio technica a700 n i just luvd its wide open soundstage but unfortunately my headphone died few days ago.
nw m confused between hd650 and hd800 as my next posession.
i knw hd800 is much more detailed but more detail means more fatigue as i dnt want to analyse music but want to feel it.
hd650 has narrower soundstage but can i use renowned cowon jeteffects to expand it and give more depth???

The HD800 is better at everything (including comfort) than the HD650. Since selling off the HD650s for the HD800s I have never looked back and the music has never sounded better.
 
Nothing you can do to the HD650s will put their sound stage anywhere in the same league as the HD800s. They truly have among the top 2 or 3 of any headphone I've ever heard.

For wide soundstage, HD650 might not be the answer(but depends if it's properly amped), but this headphone should never be fatiguing since it has relaxing treble. If you game, I strongly recommend the DT990's.

How were your A700s for Orchestra music and Rap. Not saying that you do listen to either of these genres, but if you have I just wanna know if they're good or not.

a700 puts the vocals quite forward and the soundstage is huge.
but the bass is definitely  lacking

n its not realy desirable to use equalizers on high end headphones.
but this question suddenly arose in my mind n v shud ask people who own both cowon player and hd650,dat how jeteffects affect the hd650 soundstage

The soundstage on the hd650s sounds great to me, even on my modest DAC/amp.
 
I think you may want to try the 650s before you go and spend 4x the amount on headphones, and of course, you need a powerful amp as well!
 
I hope you don't plan to use the either of these headphones on a Cowon DAP, you will need something more.

I had both and kept the HD-800. I think the HD-800 is a much better headphone than the HD-650, and I loved the HD-650. In no way is it a bad headphone. I think it'll depend on how much you want to invest. A HD-650 system can be set up for $500-$600 fairly well. A good HD-800 system will run around $3,000 on the low end. How much are you planning to spend?

That's what kills me when thinking about a pair of HD-800's as I'd be driving them with the Xonar STX and I'm sure the headphone police would arrest me if I tried to do that.

I love my HD650's. Smooth, warm, and still detailed and never fatiuging. I would probably not like the HD800 since i tend to avoid bright treble at all coasts. I'm sure the HD800 trumps most mid-fi headphones, but from what i read on them,  I'll probably have mixed feelings about it and not appreciate it

Don't know about your amp.  I have the 800's and 650's.  To me there is no question, the 800's are amazing in almost every regard......but they are fatiguing with a lot of music.  At moderate high volumes my ears hurt with rock after 5 minutes.  My HD650's are so smooth.  They are my only headphones that just make me relax and listen to my music.  You do not have to spend $3000 to make them sound good.  I would say pick up a set of 650's used and get a nice $200-$500 amp and see how you like them.  Good luck
