I have the HD650 and Nuforce Icon HDP. I may get the HD800 in a year or two.
 
With stock cable I am fine but wonder how much difference it would be. I know the connector on HD650 and HD800 are different. But is there a cable that I could use on both HD650 and HD800 with some kinds of connector? $200 + for cable for each and every headphone is crazy. The Nuforce Icon HDP is not balanced. To upgrade HD650 to balanced would require new components. It would not be cheap on decent setups.

Not sure about the cable. I used to own the HDP/HD650 combo on my desktop and I thought that was a nice all around starter setup. Personally I wouldn't worry about the cable thing for now and just save up for a better dac/amp so when you do get the HD800 you would have something descent to drive it with. I never heard my HD800 with the HDP I used to have but my best guess is that they would sound to bright with the HDP. HD650 ok.
