Which is better with my current equipment?

Which is better for Radiohead, Infected Mushroom, etc.?

Which is better all around?

How do the mids and highs compare?

I haven't had a chance to listen to the HD600s, But I own the DT770s and compared them directly to the HD650s at an audio store and they blew me away and are my next headphone purchase without a doubt. While I like the DT770s and will keep them for times that I need closed cans, The HD650's will probably be my go-to headphones. The best way I can describe the sound of the HD650 is big, lush, heavy, just plain big-time impact. The 770s have strong bass impact but lack the overall fullness of the sound that the HD650 has. From reading other impressions here about the sound of the HD600, most that I have read describe the overall sound as very similar to the 650 with slightly less bass. My portable in ear phones are Sennheiser IE-8 and my impression is that they have a similar signature to the HD650s. In fact when I started listening to the IE8s I liked the sound so much better than the DT770 that I needed to hear the HD650s so that I could get that sound signature out of my full size cans. I'm just waiting a little while to get them as so far this year I have purchased an Ipod touch, IE8, DT770, Audio-gd Compass and Grado HF-2. My wallet needs to take a deep breath.

Hello my friend.
in my opinion the 770 and 600 are two totally different headphones one is fun and engaging and the other isnt. The 600 is very neutral and very nice, and the 770 is very fun with its huge bass yet not fatiguing with its rolled off highs.
Overall what seperates these two for you is what you look for in listening.
both will need a fairly decent dedicated amp.
The 770 is by far the better option for things like infected mushroom but does not perform so well on radiohead but it will still sound ok.
to guage it i like the 770 just as much as my L3000 for infected mushroom
the 650 is not a good headphone as it combines the weaknesses of the 600 and 770 in my opinion.

600 is the better option if you dont mind it being overly relaxing almost to hte point of falling asleep.
both do not have very good highs and the 770 has very bad highs that are almost non existent

The hd 600(and the 650 i guess)can sound wonderful and not boring if paired with the right audio gear. And i don't mean expensive audio components, just find the right synergy.
To the original poster: If you can demo these phones with your equipment before you buy,it would be a nice idea.

listening to classical music on the 770Pro is like putting it through a hardrock amplifier...it "electrifies" everything it touches, great for movies and rock...but these are definitely not all-arounders IMHO.

most ppl call the 600/650 dark w/ veiled trebles?!

That's because they lack a proper amp.

Will they be veiled out of a PA2V2?

I have not heard the PA2V2, but I think it's safe to assume that it won't bring you anywhere close their full potential. Some do like them even when they aren't properly amped.

Personally, I didn't like my HD650 when I was using RSA HR-2, but now I love it when driven balanced by an Audio Gd Phoenix.

need something really really powerful.

What's the cheapest amp that would bring them to their potential?

Annnnnnnd, would the HD600s be okay with the PA2V2?

Probably a mid level DIY amp like the CKIII, PPAv2, and M^3.

The hd600's are pretty boring in its un-amped form, even with a cheap amp like the pa2v2, it wont sound as good as you wish.
The Dt770s can be extremely much fun to use, especially if you like electro, dnb and\or power metal, and they unleash more of their potential with a low quality amp than the hd600's ever could.
But the hd600s are MUCH better all-arounders than the dt770s

Personally I find the 770s much funnier than the Hd600's, and with that setup, id buy the dt770s..
If you buy the dt770s you will sometimes really miss having another set of cans (depending on how often you listen to acustic music, classical, mainstream pop etc) but if you buy the sennheisers, you'll never be really happy with your music, cuz its a boring pair of cans, really boring.

I had the HD580, which is very close to the HD600, and the DT770 Pro 80 ohm.
The HD580 was absolutely the better headphone in all aspects of the sonic spectrum.
