I have never heard the HD600's, but how do they sound with the stock cable versus a replacement cable? Do they really need the cable replaced? I think that for the price they go for, one shouldn't need to change the cable first thing. I've read alot on here that they don't sound near their full potential until the cable is swapped...
jude has a great review in the review section of the cable forum. i only have the clou red but i've listened to the equinox. in retrospect i think the money is better spent saving up towards a better source/front end (source in my case). but if the front end is good the investment does pay off. even if the source isn't great (look at my profile) the difference is still there but i think that the stock cable really isn't as bad as you may be lead to believe.
You can find lots of information by searching the forum. I have had experience w/ Clou Blue, Clou Red, and Cardas cable for my Senn HD-600. To me, the stock cable is quite good. However, if you want to eliminate the midbass hump and open up the sound, cable upgrade is the only key.
Clou Blue improves the HD600 by taming the midbass, widening the soundstage, and generate a better low frequency. The Clou Red, which is 20 to 30 dollars more expensive adds sense of air, and extend both high/lows frequencies. The red also said to change the Senn HD-600's laidback signature to more agressive pace. Another complaint about the red is the stiffness of the cable.
If you love the original laidback signature of the HD600, the Cardas replacement cable is the one to get. The cardas improves the original Senn in bass, treble, midrange transparency, and soundstage department. This is the most neutral of the upgrade cables I've tried.
They sound very good with the stock cable and better with the Cardas Cable. If I had never got the Cardas I still would have loved the HD600's. Once I got the Cardas I never listened to the phones with the stock cable again. The Zucable upgrade for the HD600 should be out this week or next sometime. I'll be interested to hear how it sounds on the HD600.
i suggest you have a good l-o-n-g listen to the senns before you buy - they aren't anybodys' cup of tea (though they are for many people all over the world).. and HD600 with Cardas/Equinox gets quite wild with the price. i heard a good way to get the most of the investment is to get the 580 jubilee with an upgraded cable, if you do like the Sennheiser sound, though this statement ain't solid enough - i would like to hear others' opinions on this.
I think the cable upgrade is the last piece of a puzzle. If you have an inadequate source and or amp no interconnect or cable upgrade is going to really improve the situation. If, however, you are looking for that last few percentage points of sonic improvement the after market cables are worth the investment.

Correction: "They aren't everybody's cup of tea..."
You see, the way you had it worded, "they aren't anybody's cup of tea" really means "they are nobody's cup of tea".
