Im using my Melos SHA-1 with stock tubes and theyre kinda the same except that the HD600 is just abit laid back.

Is this normal?

Weird.

To my ears they are completely different.
HD600 has to my ears a much tighter bass, more integrated, balanced sound spectrum and much sweeter highs than the DT990.
The DT990 have way more bass (too much sometimes to my taste) and rather sharp, metalic highs. Gives the impression of much detail. I find them to be fun with the right music but not nearly as allround as the HD600.

Yup, more to my liking.
And there is no sharp, metallic highs in my system, just aggresive.
I know it because i had this issue before i got my OMZ.

Yes, and major jumps in quality occured after 80 hours and 150 hours (previous source Revo 5.1).
OMZ does wonders in refining DT990 bass and treble and the soundstage became one of the widest i heard.
No cure to mids recession though.

Great synergy with Darkvoice (and tube amps in general), in a couple of weeks i'll be able to hear it again with my source.

The amp was a MPX3 slam.

The 600Ω DT990 is quite a bit smoother in the highs than the 250Ω that most people have, and I think the bass is a little tighter.
I agree that they sound very little like the HD600 though. Night and day to me.

When I owned the 2005 edition 250 ohm Beyer DT990's and compared them to the 600's, they sounded totally different.
The 600's were smoother, more neutral, and better balanced.
The 990's had a punchier bass, but they also sounded somewhat boomy in my system.
The 990's also sounded recessed in the mids, and sibilant/metallic like in the highs.
I much prefered the 650's.
