What a great forum! My first post here
580smile.gif
.
I use the hd595 and find them to fit my needs pretty well. I use them alround, both for pure listening, gaming and most importantly when I produce music. They are super comfortable and bass, mids and detail are great. Although I miss some treble sometimes. I noticed from the freq curve from the headroom site that the hd595 have a big dipp between 4-6 KHz. It seems to be the same for the hd650. Is this what some people refer to as the Sennheiser veil? Sometimes I compensate with eq to hear more treble and it works well, but its not optimal when mixing music.
I have read a lot of positive reviews about the dt880 (new edition) and it would be great if someone could compare them with the hd595. I have the impression that people think they are very analytical. Looking at this graph they might be what im looking for: http://www.headphone.com/technical/p...are+Headphones
I like that the 595 sound good without extra amplification, is the 880 available in the new 32 ohm? It would be great if the 880 could sound ok without amps, since its not always an option for me.
Cheers!

Edit: I also have noticed how sensitive the 595 are to placement on my head. To get the most treble out of them I place them far back on my ears. Are the 880 as sensitive?

Yes. Easiest it is to notice when you put on a headphone that doesnt have a dip in that area, like DT880. Helluva more airy and unrestricted-feeling in sound. If you find treble lacking in HD595, DT880 definetly fixes the issue.

Both are balanced headphones, but DT880 is better, more details and so on. Plus they have more emphasis on highs than HD580. Actually pronounced highs are sometimes considered as their flaw, 'till you get used to it atleast. Clarity is simply incredible.

I don't find the dt880's to be too sensitive to earplacement. It seems to be just a little more clear when my ears are centered in the ear cups.

Yea it is. You can find them on Beyerdynamic's manufacture page.

Good luck=]

I was facing a similar conundrum just now. Since I'm in the same boat as the OP, might I ask, how's the soundstage on the DT880s? Also, how do they compare to the HD595s, comfort-wise?

Thanks for the quick replys.
It would be very interesting to try the dt880 32 ohm headphones. I think they will be better for my needs than my 595 (but they are still great cans).
So what do you think of the 32 ohm unamped? The other high ohm options seems to be out of the question, I will use it both amped and unamped. Is it correct that the (new edition) 880 and 880 pro only differs in their clamping force?
Where is the cheapest place to get the 880 32ohm from? I live in Sweden and they seems to be very expensive here. Perhaps only Beyer manufacture page sell them? I will have a look on ebay.

wow, never knew that. any drop off in sound quality for the 32ohm?

btw op, you may also want to consider akg k701? but not sure if your studio equipments can drive them?

i'm also looking to go from a 595 to something else but for a different reason - i just want to try something else, something different from a 595. and those two are the ones that i'm looking at. they are said to be pretty similar in terms of sound, but they differ in soundstage.

The dt880's soundstage owns. There's two things that's important about it--its airiness, and its great width. The airiness of the soundstage makes music seem to float in space, with little attachment to the drivers. The great width, well, that's self-explanatory

*edit* Oh yea, the imaging also owns too. Imaging is the 3d placement of sounds in the soundstage, or where sounds and instruments take place and can be heard. Every sound and instrument is clearly separated in the soundstage.
