Does the HD595 really benefit from a portable amp as I am on the lookout for a new headphone to pair with my Storm STB4.

If not can you give me some pointers on a headphone that really comes alive with a portable amp, many thanks.

my brother got a portable amp and he uses it with HD 595. To me, it feels like nothing much changed, but he swears that it got much better.

on the other side, My friend's AKG 271 improved a lott with a portable amp

The HD595 didn't improve that much with the portable amps I tried with it, though I've never heard the Storm STB4, so I can't comment on that. They do respond dramatically to tube amps, though those are far from portable.

A portable amp that has some form of color in it will improve hd595 most likely, otherwise - nothing drastic. iBasso T2 and Larocco PRII, both of which have bass boost will change hd595 nicely.
