I'm wondering which phones I should get. The 580 is obviously cheaper. I will primarily be using these for gaming. Will I notice a difference off of my on board audio from my pc in games with the 595 over the 580?

the hd580 will require an amp if you buy the hd580. You would have to spend extra on a headphone amp(at least $25 bucks for homemade tin amp that runs on 9v batteries but for a good amp around $100) because the hd580 have an impedence of 300. If you buy the hd580 and an amp you would probable end up spending more but would get better sound.

if you have little dot, the synergy with the 595 is undeniable. ive had the combo and hence upgraded from that

Actually it's a matter of liking when you compare a combo of any of the two headphones and a well matching amp. I like spaciousness of the HD595's, and the veil of the HD580's is what I dislike. Maybe it's a matter of the amp and interconnect, however I cannot verify it ATM.

HD580 is a great can but I think it's too laid back for gaming or movies. For that I definitely prefer the HD595.
HD580 needs an amp to sound good. HD595 sounds good without an amp and improves quite a bit with an amp (preferably a tube amp like the little dots or Xiang Sheng).

Can't compare to the 580 but with my amp, my 595's sound just awesome!

Be careful with the bolded statement. It does NOT need an amp to sound good. It sounds wonderful coming out of a laptop headphone jack. It just sounds much better than it already does coming out of an amp.

595s would be the better choice.

You could consider some Audio Technicas A700/900...

As much as I love my HD580, I wouldn't consider using them for gaming - too laid back (as in not in your face). Get the HD595.
