I just recieved a pair of HD595 headphones today. I was wondering if it were normal for these cans to produce pops at less than high volume levels. At low volumes they sound pretty good. I know they are far from broken in, but I wouldn't expect for these phones to distort at such a volume. Its not loud by any means.. Should I return these or wait until they get a little more play on them. Ive used them for approx 5 hrs. Thanks...

ohhh yea man. when i first got my 595s, i took em out of the box, plugged em in and listened...and was very disappointed

my bass also distorted at very low volumes too...i was wondering about returning them

but

but

burn-in in these is real. within 50 hours it improved noticeably but the highs were still dim and muddy

over time though, these things completely went away. i am loving them now (had them since mid august)

I actually experienced these characteristics for the entire 150-200+ hrs of listening time I got from the HD595s.

Just give it some time -- but if you don't start to like it a LOT better within 50-80 hours of playing time, you may just want to think about getting a headphone with more refined bass, like the DT880s, anything from the Grado line, the AKG k240, etc.

That is not normal. I can crank the volume on my amp to the max (effectively turning the headphones into miniature speakers), with no audible distortion whatsoever.

Make sure your source isn't clipping and that your amp is providing enough clean power before blaming the headphones.

MY 595's are adequately burned in now, I find that the bass can be a little weak sometimes but pretty pleasing other times. The 595's are definitely not basshead cans but I enjoy the detail

That's not normal, I believe.

Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. I've had mine for about a month now, and never remember hearing any pops at any volume level. If this is still happening, might want to begin checking on that warranty.

Im pretty sure its not the source, as it does it on all of my sources. HK3480 reciever, modified MiNT and Cmoy. It seems to happen most on anything that contains a 808 kick drum or around that frequency.. It seems to be a resonance issue of sorts. I don't like to recreate it because it sounds like it is causing damage to the transducers. Im still not sure what to think about this as I am getting people who have had the same problem and people who havn't... This is my first pair of senn's and it kinda makes me wonder about their QC... I have e-mailed senn USA and I'll post what they think about it.. Any other input would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about Senn's QC--I've had 4 pairs of Senns and they've all been trouble-free. I seem to recall reading another post from a member who heard a popping sound in his 595s also, though. If I'm not mistaken, he noted that it was present during some bass freqs also. Be sure and let us know what Senn says about the issue...

I have the same HK3480 receiver, and it powers my HD595s great, bass is solid, no crackling whatsoever.

While you still have a warranty, I'd leave them alone. My 595's sounded fine new and then got better.

Change them if you can.
